Centre of Criminology Library » About the Library

About the Library:

Through the Criminology Information Service (CIS), the Centre provides professional and innovative solutions to criminal justice communities worldwide. The CIS houses the leading Canadian research collection of criminological material, consisting of more than 25.000 books, journals, government reports, statistics and other documents, which can be accessed in person or electronically via the World Wide Web. The information covers a wide range of subject areas, including public and private policing; violence; deviance and social control; young offenders; criminology, and criminal law.

Academics, students, government agencies, practitioners, the media and the general public use the CIS as a valuable source of criminological reference material. The CIS also provides special fee-for-service research and reference support to individuals or organizations. Customized information services include searching electronic and print sources, Internet searches, background packages for trial preparation, document delivery, and current awareness services.

This website provides free access to Crimdoc, a unique database of difficult-to-obtain criminal justice grey literature. In addition, this site provides the only up-to-date index to Juristat, the primary source of Canadian crime statistics. The Library also produces specialized topical bibliographies.

Photocopying and Printing (B&W) are available at the Library.

Computers are also avaliable (first come first served).
