Short Term Loan

2 hours - Short term loan books signed out within 2 hours of closing must be returned before the library closes.


Renewals can be made through My Account, in person or by phone - (416) 978-7068.


To place a hold on a book that is charged out go to the catalogue record, mouse over the blue and white icon beneath the record number, and click on request. Alternatively, you may contact the owning library in person or by telephone. The item's title, call number and your library barcode number are required.

Patrons will be contacted by email when the items they have requested become available.

Holds cannot be placed on Short Term Loan books.

Fines & Overdues:

Regular loans: $0.50 per day, short term loan: $0.50 per hour the first day and $7.50 per day for each subsequent day.

Users are responsible for keeping track of due dates for borrowed books. Email notices will be generated, provided that a correct email address has been input into the user's patron record.

Borrowers with too many overdue books or excessive fines are blocked from borrowing until their record has been cleared.

You can now pay your fines online.

Restricted Collections

Periodicals and Reference material do not circulate. Photocopy services are available in the library.

Course readings for the M.A. program are kept in the filing cabinet adjacent to the librarians' offices. A list of the readings is available in a binder at the Circulation desk.

Some restricted material is kept behind the Circulation desk. Students may be asked to leave a piece of ID while using this material.


The Centre of Criminology Library provides reference services to all levels of users, from faculty and students, to practitioners and researchers in the criminal justice system, to the general public.

Services are provided in person, or you may phone, write or e-mail the library for assistance.

Research Consultation

U. of T. students, faculty, and staff may book an appointment to discuss search strategies, research/essay topics, and recommended resources. We will help you find the sources you need. Please contact Andrea Shier (416-978-7068 ext. 245).


In depth bibliographic work and customized reference services are provided on a fee-for-service basis to governments, lawyers and other requesting in-depth services requiring the allocation of staff for blocks of time. For further information and rates, please contact Andrea Shier, the Library manager.

Interlibrary Loan

Users can submit their requests through Racer, the library's online interlibrary loan service.

Intercampus delivery

To request delivery from Scarborough, Mississauga, or Downsview, go to the catalogue record, mouse over the blue and white icon beneath the record number, and click on request.

Additional Services


A photocopy machine is available in the library for student and public use. Copies are $0.10 per page; pay at the Circulation Desk.

The Library also provides Printing (B&W only) for $0.10 per page.

Separate facilities for Criminology faculty and graduate students are available on the 2nd floor of the Centre. Cards for this copier can be obtained from the Financial Administrator.
